Concealed Carry Requirements

New York State law requires completion of a state-mandated training course prior to applying for a concealed carry pistol license.

This requirement applies to:

• New York State residents
• New York City residents and business owners
• New York City non-residents, subject to eligibility.

Important Notes by Jurisdiction

• Nassau & Suffolk County: Residents are required to complete this training for a concealed carry license. Restrictions apply to carrying in New York City.
• Suffolk County Applicants: Suffolk County currently requires applicants to first hold a Sportsman's License before taking this course or applying for a concealed carry license.
• NYC Non-Resident Applicants: New York City currently requires all non-resident applicants to hold a valid concealed carry license in their home state or jurisdiction prior to applying for a NYC concealed carry license.
